New Albany, East Union and Myrtle Set for 2025 Football Kickoff
High school football season gets underway Friday night as New Albany, Myrtle, and East Union open regular season play. Each team will look to bounce back after jamboree losses last week.
New Albany vs. Saltillo
The Bulldogs host Saltillo for the third straight year after winning last season’s matchup 29-0. Quarterback Braden Shettles, coming off a 2,000-yard passing season, returns to lead the offense. He’ll be joined by standout receiver Isaiah Simpson and LSU commit Emanuel Tucker on the line. Defensively, Jayden Foster, Parker Skinner, and Parker Hicks anchor the unit. New Albany dropped its jamboree game last week, 17-0 to Lafayette County.
Myrtle vs. Falkner
Myrtle opens at home against Falkner in a game that will air on cable channel 99 and stream via Mississippi Sports Group. The Hawks won last year’s meeting 34-28 and return eight starters on each side of the ball. Key contributors include receiver/DB Harlem McClendon, lineman Noah Ghoul, and versatile athlete Drew Stanton. Myrtle fell 20-0 to Biggersville in jamboree play.
East Union at TCPS
The Urchins travel to Belden to take on Tupelo Christian after topping them 27-6 last season. New offensive coordinator David Wilkerson will rely on QB Maddox Treadaway, with Ethan LaMontagne and Heath Wilkinson at receiver. Will Swanson and Peyton Jordan will handle carries behind a veteran line. Defensively, Braiden Verner and Jordan lead the way. East Union dropped its jamboree matchup 7-0 to Hatley.
