West Union’s Jon Grey Morrisson Wins 2026 C Spire Mr. Basketball Award
West Union senior Jon Grey Morrisson has been named the 2026 C Spire Mr. Basketball winner in Class 1A, earning one of the highest individual honors in Mississippi high school basketball.
Morrisson, a 6-foot-6 senior center for the West Union Eagles, helped power his team to an outstanding 32-1 record this season. He averaged 15 points and 10 rebounds per game, anchoring the Eagles on both ends of the floor and establishing himself as one of the most dominant post players in the state’s smallest classification.
The award, presented annually by the Mississippi High School Activities Association (MHSAA) in partnership with the Mississippi Association of Coaches, recognizes the top boys basketball player in each classification across the state.
In a statement, the MHSAA praised this year’s recipients:
“Congratulations to the 2026 Mr. Basketball award winners. The MHSAA and MAC are proud to recognize these outstanding student-athletes for their excellence on and off the court this season.”
For West Union, Morrisson’s leadership was just as impactful as his statistics. His ability to control the paint, protect the rim, and rebound at a high level allowed the Eagles to dictate tempo throughout the season. Offensively, his presence inside created opportunities for teammates while consistently producing double-digit scoring performances.
At 6’6”, Morrisson provided a matchup problem for nearly every opponent in Class 1A. His combination of size, strength, and basketball IQ made him a cornerstone of West Union’s success during a near-perfect campaign.
Beyond the numbers, the Mr. Basketball honor reflects excellence in character, academics, and sportsmanship — qualities Morrisson demonstrated throughout his senior year.
With a 32-1 record and a Mr. Basketball winner anchoring the roster, the 2026 season will go down as one of the most memorable in West Union basketball history.
