Myrtle gets division sweep of Falkner with big road wins
Myrtle got a pair of division wins against Falkner on Tuesday night with the Hawks and Lady Hawks picking up hard fought victories.
In girls action, Myrtle used a 26-3 second quarter to pull away from the Lady Eagles and got clutch plays down the stretch to hold on for a 58-53 victory.
The Lady hawks were led by Breanna Smith’s 20 points, including several clutch free throws to clinch the victory. Kinsley Gordon added 14. The victory moved Myrtle to 2-1 in division play, 7-14 overall.
In boys action, the Hawks found themselves in a back and forth contest against the Eagles and were able to come away with a 70-68 victory.
Myrtle was led by AI Nugent’s 21 points, including what turned out to be the game winner with under 30 seconds to play.
The Hawks got 16 points apiece from Elijah Thompson and Jaden Taylor. The win was Myrtle’s first division victory of the season. They are 7-13 overall.
Both teams are back in action on Friday in a division contest against Hickory Flat.
