LeFlore, Johnson power East Union into volleyball’s third round
Ann Fleming LeFlore’s 19 kills and Reagan Johnson’s 10 service aces sent East Union into the third round of the Class 2A volleyball playoffs Monday, as the unbeaten Urchins swept visiting New Site in Blue Springs.
East Union won 25–10, 25–10, 25–12, following Saturday’s first-round sweep of Kemper County with another three-set victory. New Site’s Johna Kate Lindley led the Royals with six kills and four blocks. The Royals finished the match at 17–7.
LeFlore hit .455 to lead an attack that produced 39 kills, according to the MaxPreps match statistics. Lily Kate Johnson added eight kills and hit .400, while Marley Clayton supplied five kills and Taylor LeFlore four. East Union hit .295 as a team, committing 13 attacking errors in 88 attempts.
Reagan Johnson paired her 10 aces with a team-high 15 digs. Lyla Brock contributed 23 assists, four aces and 10 digs, and Lilly Bruce added 10 assists. East Union totaled 19 aces and 43 digs in the sweep.
The Class 2A bracket puts the Urchins one victory from the October 12 semifinals. Tuesday’s Eupora–Hatley match will determine their next opponent; a starting time for Thursday’s contest has not been announced.
Four other county volleyball teams play Tuesday, October 6, with all four matches scheduled for 6 p.m. CDT. New Albany welcomes Amory, while Myrtle travels to Baldwyn. Ingomar faces Potts Camp, and West Union meets Pine Grove.
New Albany enters at 29–9 after sweeping Byhalia in its Class 4A opener. Ingomar brings a 22–7 record and a first-round sweep of Biggersville into the Class 1A matchup. Myrtle is 21–7 after eliminating Philadelphia, while West Union advanced with a sweep at West Bolivar.
Football returns Thursday, October 8, when Myrtle visits Strayhorn. Friday brings Bruce to East Union and Ripley to New Albany. All three games are scheduled for 7 p.m. CDT.
