Four Union County volleyball teams face third-round tests Thursday
Four Union County volleyball teams put their postseason hopes on the line Thursday, October 8, with East Union, Myrtle and New Albany traveling and Ingomar playing at home. All four varsity girls matches start at 6 p.m.
East Union visits Hatley in Amory in Class 2A after sweeping New Site on Monday. The unbeaten Urchins have won both playoff matches in three sets. Myrtle, also in Class 2A, heads to Walnut after Tuesday’s four-set victory at Baldwyn. The Hawks enter at 22–7; Walnut is 30–4.
Ingomar welcomes Pine Grove for a Class 1A matchup. The Falcons are 23–7 and have won four straight matches, including playoff sweeps of Biggersville and Potts Camp. Pine Grove advanced by beating West Union in three sets Tuesday. West Union has no further volleyball match scheduled.
New Albany takes a 30–9 record to Ripley for its Class 4A match. The Bulldogs swept Ripley on August 27 and have won five straight entering the rematch. Thursday’s contests fall on the MHSAA third-round playoff date.
Football gives Myrtle a second road assignment Thursday: the boys visit Strayhorn at 7 p.m. East Union’s boys host Bruce Friday, October 9, while New Albany’s boys welcome Ripley that night. Both Friday kickoffs are at 7 p.m.
The next posted cross-country stop is the Union County Championships Thursday, October 15, at BNA Park Soccer Complex and Tallahatchie Trails in New Albany. Boys from all five schools are entered in the 2:40 p.m. varsity 5K. East Union, Myrtle, West Union and New Albany have girls entered for the 2 p.m. 5K. Ingomar’s girls have no next event posted.
New Albany’s boys golfers have qualified for the Class 4A state tournament October 26–27 at Dancing Rabbit, according to the official team announcement. A starting time is not posted. Next golf events are not posted for East Union, Myrtle or West Union boys, Ingomar boys or girls, or New Albany girls.
Ingomar’s boys and girls swimming teams also have no next meet posted. All times listed are Mississippi local time.
