New Albany, Ingomar girls open state golf week; regional races follow

Girls’ state golf play begins Monday for New Albany and Ingomar, opening a Union County sports week that brings regional cross-country championships to Blue Mountain and New Albany before football returns Thursday night.

The Lady Bulldogs play Monday and Tuesday, Oct. 19–20, at Dancing Rabbit, carrying their sixth consecutive region championship into the tournament. New Albany’s boys follow Oct. 26–27 at the same course after advancing from the Region 1-4A tournament. Tee times for both teams were not posted. The dates come from New Albany Golf and its boys’ state announcement.

Ingomar’s girls also have state golf scheduled Monday and Tuesday. The Falcons’ weekly athletics schedule does not specify their course or tee time.

West Union’s runners are first into regional competition Tuesday, Oct. 20. The girls’ 5-kilometer race starts at 4 p.m., followed by the boys at 4:35, on the Blue Mountain College cross-country trail. Both Eagles teams are entered in the Region 2-1A meet.

Thursday’s regional races use BNA Park’s Soccer/Tennis Complex and Tallahatchie Trails in New Albany. The host Bulldogs’ girls run at 10 a.m. and boys at 10:30. East Union and Myrtle send their girls to the line at 11, with East Union, Ingomar and Myrtle boys racing at 11:30. The meet schedule provides separate regional standings and awards. Ingomar girls’ next cross-country meet is not posted.

Football splits across two nights. Myrtle hosts Bruce and East Union travels to Belmont Thursday, Oct. 22, both at 7 p.m. New Albany visits Tishomingo County Friday, Oct. 23, at 7. All times are Mississippi local time.

Next events are not posted for East Union, Ingomar, Myrtle and West Union boys’ golf or either Ingomar swimming team. Those teams join Ingomar girls’ cross-country among the county’s remaining fall schedule questions.

Volleyball has finished at all five schools. East Union, Ingomar and New Albany closed with state championships last week; Myrtle and West Union previously completed their playoff runs. None has another varsity match scheduled this season.
