West Union gets split with Alcorn Central as Lady Eagles take the victory
West Union made the trip to Alcorn Central in hoops action on Thursday night and came away with a Lady Eagle win and a pair of hard fought games.
In girls action, West Union used tenacious defensive pressure in the fourth quarter to pull away in a back and forth contest for a 53-43 victory.
The Lady Eagles found themselves trailing the Lady Bears of Alcorn Central 23-21 at halftime and the lead was only two leading into the fourth quarter.
A flurry of baskets off of turnovers led by Annie Orman’s 7 points and Emma Callicutt’s defense with 3 steals stretched the lead and ultimately claimed the victory.
Orman led West Union with 24 points. Eden Conlee added 15.
The victory moved the Lady Eagles to 10-15 on the season. They play in the Robertson’s Sportswear Challenge on Saturday.
In boys action, the Eagles lost a close contest that came down to a final shot. The Golden Bears of Alcorn Central came away with a 57-54 victory.
West Union was led in scoring by Cole Phillips with 21. Sam Callicutt added 19 and Luke Willard added 10.
The loss dropped the Eagles to 11-15 on the season. They play in the Hotbed Classic in New Albany on Saturday.
