East Union stays unbeaten; Ingomar and Myrtle sweep Tuesday volleyball matches

East Union added two more victories to its unbeaten season Tuesday, Sept. 8, leading a busy night of varsity volleyball for Union County schools. The Urchins swept Caledonia and New Albany, while Ingomar and Myrtle also won in straight sets. New Albany finished its two-match slate with a win over Caledonia and a loss to its county rival.

East Union defeated Caledonia 2–0, taking the sets 25–16 and 25–10. The Urchins then beat New Albany 2–0 behind set scores of 25–22 and 25–16. The two victories lifted East Union to 23–0, according to the updated MaxPreps match pages.

New Albany’s opening match brought a 2–0 victory over Caledonia. The Bulldogs won the first set 25–15 and held off the Cavaliers 25–23 in the second. Against East Union, New Albany stayed within three points in the opening set before the Urchins closed out the match with a nine-point margin in the second. New Albany ended the night with a 19–7 record.

Ingomar picked up a 3–0 district victory at Okolona, winning 25–11, 25–7 and 25–15. The Falcons allowed just 33 points across the three sets and improved to 14–5. Their largest margin came in the second set, when they outscored the Chieftains by 18 points.

Myrtle also earned a road district sweep, defeating Water Valley 3–0 to improve to 16–5. Individual set scores were not available on the match page reviewed Wednesday morning. The Hawks’ win sets up a county matchup with unbeaten East Union on Thursday, Sept. 10; MaxPreps lists the varsity contest at East Union for 7 p.m.

West Union was scheduled to face South Pontotoc on Tuesday, but a final score remained unreported on MaxPreps during Wednesday’s review. That matchup is pending verification and is not being counted as a win, loss or cancellation.
