Midseason Update: Myrtle Hawks

At the halfway point of the season, many of Union County’s teams are gearing up for a run at the MHSAA State Basketball Championship. As for Myrtle, here is how the Hawks and Lady Hawks have fared so far.

Lady Hawks:

Record: 5-9 (2-2)

Notable Wins: 53-41 vs. Ingomar, 77-13 vs. Coldwater

Notable Losses: 51-45 @ New Albany, 65-47 vs. West Union, 73-72 (OT) @ Hickory Flat

Leading Scorer: Kinsley Gordon (21 PPG)

Notable Upcoming Games: January 10 @ Ashland, January 16-18 in the Union County Tournament, January 31 vs. West Union

Playoff Aspirations: Despite the sub .500 start, the Lady Hawks are in prime position to make it into the postseason due to the 2-2 record against the division. They have the edge over Byers as of now for the #4 seed and still must play Ashland twice, presumably for the #3 seed.


Hawks:

Record: 6-8 (2-2)

Notable Wins: 78-69 @ Hickory Flat, 77-72 (OT) vs. Coldwater

Notable Losses: 77-55 vs. West Union, 86-42 @ Byers

Scoring Leader: A.I. Nugent

Notable Upcoming Games: January 16-18 in the Union County Tournament, January 24 vs. Ashland, January 31 @ West Union

Playoff Aspirations: The men of Myrtle Attendance Center sit in almost the exact same position as the women. Positioned in the #3 seed as of now with a 2-2 division record, they will also play Ashland twice presumably to see who retains that #3 seed.
