New Albany takes rivalry lead with 32–15 win over Ripley

New Albany moved ahead in its football rivalry with Ripley on Friday, Oct. 9. The Bulldogs beat the visiting Tigers 32–15 for their fourth consecutive win in the series, taking a 38–37 all-time lead, according to WTVA’s Friday night report.

The result sends New Albany into next week’s trip to South Pontotoc with back-to-back victories, following its 55–7 win over North Pontotoc. The Bulldogs visit the Cougars on Friday, Oct. 16, at 7 p.m.

East Union had a tougher district night in Blue Springs. Unbeaten Bruce shut out the Urchins 40–0, improving to 7–0. East Union fell to 1–6 overall and 0–2 in district play.

Joshua Long completed 10 of 13 passes for 247 yards and five touchdowns for Bruce. Cayden Jones caught four passes for 98 yards and two touchdowns. The Trojans finished with 271 passing yards and 145 rushing yards, according to the MaxPreps game statistics.

For East Union, Jon Carter Goodwin completed 13 of 18 passes for 99 yards. Asher Wages caught five passes for 46 yards, and Colten Goad added three receptions for 40. Maddox Treadaway rushed for 21 yards on 10 carries, while Rylei Lester had eight tackles.

The Urchins host Strayhorn on Oct. 16 at 7 p.m. Myrtle also returns home that night, meeting Water Valley at 7 after Thursday’s 41–0 win at Strayhorn.

Volleyball’s next stop is Monday’s North State finals. East Union hosts Walnut, Ingomar hosts Tupelo Christian Prep and New Albany travels to Mooreville. East Union and New Albany have 6 p.m. starts posted; Ingomar’s start time remains unannounced.

Thursday, Oct. 15, brings the Union County cross-country championships to the BNA Park Soccer Complex and Tallahatchie Trails in New Albany. West Union hosts the meet, with the varsity girls’ 5K at 2 p.m. and boys’ 5K at 2:40. Boys from all five county schools are entered; the girls’ field includes East Union, Myrtle, West Union and New Albany.
