Three North State volleyball finals open Union County sports week

East Union, Ingomar and New Albany will play for state volleyball tournament berths Monday, Oct. 12, opening a county sports week that also brings the cross-country championships to New Albany. All three North State finals are scheduled for 6 p.m., with East Union and Ingomar at home and New Albany on the road.

East Union hosts Walnut in Class 2A, renewing a matchup the Urchins won 3–1 on Sept. 1. East Union reached the final with playoff sweeps of Kemper County, New Site and Hatley.

Ingomar hosts Tupelo Christian Prep in Class 1A. The Falcons enter at 24–7 after five consecutive victories. The teams split their regular-season meetings, each winning 3–0 at home. New Albany visits Mooreville in Class 4A; the 31–9 Bulldogs have won six straight, including three playoff sweeps. Myrtle and West Union have completed their volleyball seasons.

Thursday, Oct. 15, shifts the focus to the Union County cross-country championships, hosted by West Union at the BNA Park Soccer Complex and Tallahatchie Trails in New Albany. The varsity girls’ 5K starts at 2 p.m.; East Union, Myrtle, West Union and New Albany have runners entered. The boys’ 5K follows at 2:40, with all five schools represented. Ingomar girls’ next varsity meet is not posted.

Football returns Friday, Oct. 16, with three 7 p.m. kickoffs: East Union hosts Strayhorn, Myrtle hosts Water Valley and New Albany travels to South Pontotoc. All times are Mississippi local time.

On the golf course, New Albany’s girls have an Oct. 15 tuneup at Oaks Country Club before their Oct. 19–20 state tournament at Dancing Rabbit. The tuneup opponent and tee time have not been announced. New Albany’s boys next play in the Class 4A state tournament Oct. 26–27 at Dancing Rabbit; tee times are not posted.

Next varsity golf events are not posted for East Union boys, Ingomar boys and girls, Myrtle boys or West Union boys. Ingomar’s boys’ and girls’ swimming teams also have no next meet announced.
