LeFlore’s 20 kills keep East Union unbeaten; Myrtle, Ingomar add sweeps

Ann Flemming LeFlore delivered 20 kills as East Union swept Pine Grove on Monday, Sept. 14, extending its unbeaten volleyball season to 24 matches and setting up a Tuesday meeting with another Union County team coming off a convincing win.

The Urchins won 25–9, 25–17, 25–21 in Ripley. LeFlore hit .389, leading an East Union attack that finished with 41 kills, according to the MaxPreps match statistics. East Union also totaled 58 digs, 38 assists and six service aces.

Pine Grove narrowed the margin in each successive set but could not extend the match. The Panthers fell to 13–10, while East Union completed its second sweep of Pine Grove this season after a 2–0 victory Aug. 8.

Myrtle supplied the other half of Tuesday’s county matchup by overwhelming Water Valley 25–9, 25–12, 25–6 at home. The straight-set district victory lifted the Hawks to 17–5 overall and 2–1 in Class 2A Region 2.

It was Myrtle’s sixth consecutive win and its second 3–0 victory over Water Valley in a week. The Hawks had won the Sept. 8 meeting on the road before completing the season-series sweep Monday.

Ingomar kept a winning streak of its own intact, beating visiting Potts Camp 3–0 for its seventh straight victory. The non-district win moved the Falcons to 16–5. Potts Camp dropped to 11–6.

All five county volleyball programs are scheduled to play Tuesday, Sept. 15. East Union hosts Myrtle at 6 p.m. in a district match, with the Hawks seeking to reverse a 2–0 loss to the Urchins on Aug. 22.

Ingomar travels to Smithville for a 6 p.m. district contest. West Union, 7–15 overall and unbeaten in three district matches, hosts Hickory Flat at 6:30 p.m. New Albany takes a 22–8 record into its home match against South Pontotoc, also at 6:30 p.m., at Memorial Gym. All times are Mississippi local time.
