LeFlore’s 23 kills lift East Union past Myrtle to 25–0
Ann Flemming LeFlore put down 23 kills Tuesday as East Union swept county rival Myrtle, keeping the Urchins unbeaten through 25 varsity volleyball matches.
East Union won 25–13, 25–18, 25–9 at home Sept. 15 to improve to 2–0 in Class 2A Region 2. Myrtle fell to 17–6 after entering the match on the heels of Monday’s sweep of Water Valley.
LeFlore hit .298, while Reagan Johnson collected 28 digs and three service aces, according to East Union’s MaxPreps match statistics. Lyla Brock supplied 18 assists and Lily Bruce added 15. The Urchins finished with 44 kills, 60 digs and nine aces, following their Monday win at Pine Grove with another straight-set victory.
East Union heads to Water Valley at 6 p.m. Thursday. Myrtle also returns to district play Thursday, traveling to Strayhorn for a 6 p.m. match.
New Albany kept its district record spotless with a 25–15, 25–5, 25–8 home sweep of South Pontotoc. Allie Keller led the Bulldogs with 19 kills and three total blocks, and Yasmine Puryear contributed five kills with a .429 hitting percentage, according to the MaxPreps box score.
The Bulldogs improved to 23–8 overall and 3–0 in Class 4A Region 1. They finished with 33 kills and seven service aces and held South Pontotoc to single digits in each of the final two sets. New Albany visits Tishomingo County at 4 p.m. Thursday.
Ingomar extended its winning streak to eight matches with a 3–0 victory at Smithville. The Falcons moved to 17–5 overall and 4–0 in Class 1A Region 3, adding another road win after Monday’s sweep at Potts Camp. Their next district stop is Tupelo Christian Prep at 7 p.m. Thursday.
West Union took its first district loss, falling 3–0 at home to Hickory Flat. The Eagles are 7–16 overall and 3–1 in Class 1A Region 2. They remain home Thursday for a 6 p.m. rematch with Potts Camp, the team they defeated in five sets Sept. 10.
