East Union takes perfect record to Water Valley as county teams hit the road

East Union takes its 25–0 volleyball record to Water Valley on Thursday, Sept. 17, leading a Union County slate that sends four of the county’s five varsity girls teams on the road.

The Urchins’ 6 p.m. district match follows Tuesday’s sweep of Myrtle. Ingomar carries an eight-match winning streak into its own road test, while West Union gets another meeting with a team it beat in five sets last week.

New Albany opens Thursday’s volleyball schedule at Tishomingo County at 4 p.m. The Bulldogs are 23–8 overall and 3–0 in district play after sweeping South Pontotoc on Tuesday.

Myrtle, 17–6, visits Strayhorn at 6 p.m., looking to rebound from its loss at East Union. West Union hosts Potts Camp at 6 p.m.; the Eagles are 7–16 and 3–1 in district play after falling to Hickory Flat. Their Sept. 10 trip to Potts Camp ended in a 3–2 victory.

Ingomar closes the county’s Thursday volleyball slate at Tupelo Christian Prep at 7 p.m. The Falcons are 17–5 overall and unbeaten in four district matches, with Tuesday’s sweep at Smithville extending their winning streak.

Friday, Sept. 18, brings three varsity football games, all at 7 p.m. East Union travels to Hamilton, Myrtle hosts Vardaman and New Albany visits Caledonia.

Cross-country runners have two Saturday destinations. Ingomar hosts its Sept. 19 invitational at BNA Tennis and Pickleball Park in New Albany. The varsity girls’ 5K is scheduled for approximately 9 a.m., followed by the boys at 9:30 on a rolling schedule.

Myrtle, West Union and New Albany are registered for the Saltillo Invitational on Sept. 19 at Saltillo High School. The Class 1A–4A varsity girls race starts at 5 p.m., with boys at 5:45. Those are the next listed meet opportunities for the three schools; individual boys’ and girls’ entries remain subject to confirmation. East Union’s next boys’ and girls’ cross-country meet was not available at press time.

Golf also appears on Thursday’s calendar: Pontotoc lists a visit to New Albany at 3 p.m. Sept. 17. The listing does not identify the course or boys’ and girls’ divisions, leaving each New Albany squad’s assignment unconfirmed. Next matches were not available for East Union, Myrtle and West Union boys’ golf or Ingomar boys’ and girls’ golf.
