Ingomar sweeps TCPS rematch; Bailey leads New Albany golf victory

Ingomar answered last week’s loss to Tupelo Christian Prep with a sweep of its own Monday, beating the Eagles 3-0 at home to split their two September volleyball meetings.

The Falcons improved to 18-6 overall and 5-1 in district play. TCPS had won Thursday’s meeting in straight sets, but Ingomar reversed that result four days later. The victory gave the Falcons nine wins in their last 10 matches heading into Tuesday’s matchup with Smithville.

New Albany also had a winning Monday on the golf course. Adeline Bailey shot a 1-under-par 71 and earned her 12th consecutive medalist honor as the Lady Bulldogs claimed another team victory, according to the official New Albany Golf account. The school’s calendar listed Monday’s 18-hole event at Mallard Pointe.

Bailey’s round followed medalist performances at the Tupelo National and Tishomingo County invitationals earlier this month. New Albany’s golf schedule continues Tuesday at Shiloh Ridge.

On the volleyball court, New Albany beat North Pontotoc 25-14, 25-15, 25-22 in Ecru to improve to 25-8. It was the Bulldogs’ second sweep of the Vikings this month, following a 3-0 victory Sept. 3.

Allie Keller led New Albany with 15 kills, while Laurel Malone added seven and hit .294. Sara Barton Ozbirn supplied 26 assists and nine digs, and Annie Bine Bright had 10 digs, according to the match statistics posted on MaxPreps. Keller also contributed eight digs and two service aces.

East Union remained unbeaten with a 3-0 district victory at Strayhorn. The Urchins next visit county rival Myrtle on Thursday, Sept. 24; East Union won their Sept. 15 meeting in three sets.

West Union recorded a 3-0 district win over Byers ahead of Tuesday’s trip to Hickory Flat. Myrtle returns to action Tuesday at home against Strayhorn, with varsity play listed for 6 p.m.

Friday’s varsity football schedule sends all three Union County teams on the road: East Union to Falkner, Myrtle to Walnut and New Albany to Pontotoc. All three games are listed for 7 p.m.
