East Union volleyball doubleheader starts county varsity week

East Union’s girls volleyball team opens a county-heavy Monday with Water Valley visiting at 4:30 p.m., followed by Ingomar at 6:30. The teams met twice in August, both two-set East Union victories, according to the Urchins’ varsity schedule. Ingomar enters with consecutive reported sweeps of Tupelo Christian Prep and Smithville. The Falcons’ trip to Blue Springs is their next listed match.

New Albany hosts Corinth at 6:30 p.m. Monday. The Bulldogs’ schedule marks it as a district contest and lists Thursday’s sweep of South Pontotoc as their latest result. On Tuesday, West Union travels to Myrtle for a 6:30 p.m. varsity match. Both schools have that county meeting next on their calendars.

Ingomar’s boys have the next confirmed county cross-country start. The Falcons are entered in Tuesday’s New Site Invitational varsity 5K, scheduled for 5:45 p.m. at New Site High School.

Friday, October 2, brings the Pontotoc XC Invitational to Cherry Creek Orchard. New Albany has girls entered in the 9 a.m. Class 4A–7A 5K and boys in the 9:40 race. East Union and West Union have runners in both Class 1A–3A divisions: girls at 11:20 a.m., boys at noon. Ingomar’s boys are also entered in the noon race. The organizer’s schedule sets those start times.

Friday night’s football schedule sends Myrtle to East Union at 7 p.m. and brings North Pontotoc to New Albany at 7. Myrtle’s most recent final is a 34–8 win at Walnut. East Union will seek a response after a 42–34 loss at Falkner, while New Albany returns home after a 35–7 defeat at Pontotoc.

Next varsity events have not been posted for East Union boys golf; Ingomar girls cross-country, boys and girls golf, and boys and girls swimming; Myrtle boys and girls cross-country and boys golf; West Union boys golf; or New Albany boys and girls golf.
