Union County Football, Sept. 11: East Union Rolls on Homecoming; Weather Wipes Out New Albany, Myrtle
BLUE SPRINGS, Miss. — All three Union County football teams were home Friday night. Only one of them got to finish.
East Union broke open its homecoming game with a 22-0 run and never looked back, beating H.W. Byers 48-14 for its first win of the season. In New Albany and in Myrtle, lightning had the final say: both games were called and declared no contests.

The Urchins had been outscored 104-21 through two weeks. On homecoming, they scored 48.
East Union jumped to a 22-0 lead and never looked back, picking up its first win of 2026 and moving to 1-2. It was the night the numbers had been waiting on — as the Friday preview noted, East Union is 70-6 all-time when it scores 30 or more. The Urchins cleared that mark by 18 points.
East Union has now won all four meetings in the series with Byers. Sophomore running back Tavoras Polk led the Urchins in rushing coming into the night.

East Union crowned Lily Bruce homecoming queen and Luke Elder homecoming king at halftime.
The 2026 homecoming maids were Halle Jo Blythe, Lucy Cochran, Addie Mask, Ainsley Porch, Maddi Robbins and Adison Russell.
New Albany vs. Itawamba Agricultural — No Contest
New Albany and Itawamba Agricultural played into the third quarter at Kitchens Field before weather ended it. The game was declared a no contest, and neither record changes. The Bulldogs stay 1-1.
New Albany led 3-0 after the first quarter on a short field goal, then pushed it to 10-0 on a short touchdown pass from junior quarterback Kam Ray to senior receiver Jay Boone on third-and-goal from inside the 5, with eight minutes left in the half.
Itawamba Agricultural answered just before the break. Xavier Waters scored on a 10-yard run out of a full-house backfield with a second left in the second quarter, cutting it to 10-7 at halftime.
The Indians took a 14-10 lead in the third quarter, and the game was called midway through the period with Itawamba Agricultural in front.
Senior running back Kylen Knox came into the night averaging 169.0 rushing yards per game with all five of New Albany’s rushing touchdowns. Itawamba Agricultural entered allowing 12 points per game.
Myrtle vs. Belmont — No Contest
Myrtle had the lead and the momentum. It did not get to keep either.
Junior Drew Staton found Jay Milan for a touchdown to put the Hawks up 6-0 on Belmont, and Myrtle carried that 6-0 lead into halftime before a lightning delay stopped play. The game was ultimately declared a no contest.
Myrtle stays 1-1. The Hawks had been chasing their first win over Belmont after five straight losses in the series, the most recent by two points in 2025. Staton had accounted for six of Myrtle’s nine touchdowns entering the night.

- No. 68 New Albany — 62.4
- No. 160 Myrtle — 36.8
- No. 211 East Union — 19.8
