West Union girls win 2nd straight as boys have won 2 of 3
The West Union basketball squads picked up big wins on Tuesday night ast their stretch of games against squads from larger classifications have led to multiple wins.
In girls action, the Lady Eagles have won back to back games over opponents from 4A with a victory last Thursday over South Pontotoc and a win on Tuesday against Alcorn Central.
West Union defeated South Pontotoc 54-42 in a hotly contested match then took out Alcorn Central convincingly 54-26 to move to 2-2 on the year.
Against South Pontotoc the Lady Eagles used a balanced scoring attack to claim the victory. Annie Orman led with 13 points while Eden Conlee went for 12. Mackenzie Morris had 9, Ella Kate Taylor had 8 and Emma Callicutt contributed 7
Against the Lady Bears of Alcorn Central, Orman led with 20 points while Anna Carwyle had 10 and Ella Kate Taylor added 9.
In boys action, the Eagles have won two of their last three contests, defeating South Pontotoc and Alcorn Central by scores of 70-61 and 76-49 while falling to Shannon 94-62. Against South Pontotoc, seven players scored at least 5 points led by Caleb Graves 20. Luke and Braden Willard, Jerod McDonald, Brandon Phillips, Daniel Conlee and Dylan Ewing helped round out the scoring.
Against Alcorn Central, Caleb Graves again led in scoring with 25 points while Luke Willard tallied 22. Sam Callicutt and Jerod McDonald each went for 7.
